Our Story

It All Began In Wisconsin..

Crazy Franks was inspired by the hard work ethic that Frank's father taught him as a young boy. He grew up on a small farm in Kendall Wisconsin where he would watch his father, a carpenter, repurpose wood for other projects. When Frank was little he would play with the scrap wood pieces that were left over from his father's work and as he grew, he was given the job of pulling nails from the repurposed lumber. Mr. Calloway would even have Frank straighten out each nail to be reused, nothing was wasted.

As life continued Frank met a woman named Myrna, who had recently began working for his father. Frank knew that he couldn't let this one get away, so on April 13th in 1964, Frank married Myrna- the woman of his dreams.  At the time the newly weds had owned a burlap factory where they cleaned and sized burlap which would then be sold to feed manufacturers.  They ran their business for 5 years until manufacturers began using different materials for their feed.  Frank and Myrna knew they needed to make a big change..

Not willing to give up on his dreams of entrepreneurship, Frank thought back to his Uncle George. George Calloway had a successful car business known as "Poor Franks", which inspired Frank to think of other ways that he can make a living. In 1970 Frank and Myrna moved to Readstown Wisconsin, where Frank then purchased the old Readstown School property. This property would soon be developed into the Readstown Flea Market. Myrna asked Frank what they should call this "thing". Being inspired by his Uncle George, he chose to call it "Crazy Franks". Myrna loved the name and found it quite fitting- and in Franks book, it was too exhausting to pretend being normal. It became a successful business and was the place to go to purchase lumber, paneling, insulation, nails, and siding.

Frank and Myrna wanted to continue to provide customers with other items and support the other local small businesses. So in 1988, they bought property in Mineral Point to start another store which their son Miles and his wife Melissa now operate, and in 2008 they built the Crazy Franks on Hwy 61 from the ground up. Frank and Myrna continue to run the Readstown businesses.
